Secondary Schools: Battery Project
In partnership with Rehab Recycle, WEEE Ireland is running a battery awareness project aimed at Transition Year students across Ireland. Once the project is completed, students are asked to compile a report of their findings as submit their project for marking. The top schools in each province are awarded with refurbished computers for their school.

So how does it Work?
Participating students are tasked with assessing the current awareness level of battery recycling in their school, neighbouring primary school(s), battery retailers and local community. Extra marks will be given to schools who demonstrate the use of initiative in raising awareness of battery recycling facilities available to the general public.
Did you know....
Under European Law, Ireland needs to be recycling 25% of portable (e.g. AA or AAA) batteries by 2014 and 45% of portable batteries by 2016. In 2010, we recycled approximately 15% of portable batteries. Remember - don't bin the battery, recycle it!!

Batteries can be recycled in any outlet that sells batteries of similar type. Household batteries such as AA, AAA and button cell batteries can be brought back to your local supermarket, newsagent or discount store. Car batteries can be brought back to your local garage or motor factor, and electric fence batteries can be brought to your local agri-store
